Goodwater
and the surrounding area offers something to do year round. Special events range from a jazz festival to fishing tournaments and fireworks displays. The following is a partial list of some of the exciting special events in the Goodwater region.
Lake Martin is a very popular place for fishing tournaments. Most tournaments are held at the Wind Creek State Park on the north end of the lake, near Alexander City, where a weigh-in station is located on site. Occasionally, small club tournaments are held at the Kowaliga Creek boat ramp on Highway 63. Lake Martin is a very popular tournament lake because most anglers find it relatively easy to catch fish; however, the fish are generally small and winning weights are lower compared to other Alabama reservoirs.
