Goodwater, Alabama
is a small, quiet community located in Coosa County, 49 miles north of Montgomery. It is near Lake Martin, which is one of the largest man-made lakes in the United States. Goodwater is also just northwest of Alexander City, which is a small, but progressive city of 16,000 residents. Lake Martin is a popular recreational lake in the south and is home to a mix of full time and part time residents in stately lake front homes, condominiums and cabins. Currently, there are more than 300 miles of undeveloped shoreline around Lake Martin. The Goodwater area offers everything imaginable for recreation, including fishing, boating, sailing, and skiing, hiking, biking and camping. The town of Goodwater is situated within Coosa County, Alabama. As of the 2000 census, the entire county had a population of 12,202 residents. Goodwater is the largest city in the county with a population of approximately 5,000. The county seat for Coosa County is the small village of Rockford, with a population of 500 residents. Although Goodwater is just a few miles northwest of Alexander City – the latter town is in Tallapoosa County.
